The public house, the pub. A third place that is disappearing from our urban landscape. The original social meeting places have gone from every street corner.
The River Pub, caught between the new estate and the park never had a chance once the houses in the adjacent street were flattened.
The Church Inn
Once a thriving meeting place for the local media businesses. The nearby photographic studios were fed and watered on a daily basis and at a night time a precursor to the Apollo venue.
It is surprising that this is now flattened and a derelict piece of land bears witness to the once bustling meeting place. Or maybe it isn’t as it has planning permission for 20 apartments.
